A practical session delivered by Dr Jan Smith, Chartered Psychologist and Expert Witness, and Dr Mike Smith Clinical Neuropsychologist designed to support solicitors managing complex client dynamics in Serious Injury and Clinical Negligence cases. Ideal for lawyers working with adult claimants.

The session covers:

  • The impact of client presentation on case outcomes – how behaviour and emotional dysregulation may affect expert evidence, credibility, and settlement negotiations.

  • Communicating effectively to build trust – psychological insights into how to explain complex legal processes and manage expectations with clarity and authority.

  • De-escalation techniques for heightened emotions – practical strategies to reduce distress, keep clients engaged, and prevent breakdowns in communication.

  • When the relationship isn’t working – recognising when psychological factors may be at play and how to address them, including when to seek additional support from psychological experts.

  • Working with Expert Witnesses – how psychologists can contribute to understanding your client’s presentation, capacity, and credibility, and when it may strengthen your case.
